You will be allowed to focus on the god within yourself, because that’s the only true god. The god within everything. That’s the only thing that’s alive for me that is worth calling god. It is the highest spirit of everything, and not this control freak thats telling you ‘You are not supposed to do this, you are not supposed to do this, you are only supposed to bow down and kneel before what I say. God is within man, god is within nature, and nature will always grow. That’s the force of all life, is to grow.

There is no god and that’s the simple truth. If every trace of any single religion died out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created exactly that way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it all out again. Without hype, Lot’s salt-heap ho would never be thought of again. Without science, Earth still goes around the sun, and someday someone would find a way to discover that again. Science is so important because it’s a way to find truth, but truth doesn’t dependent on it. Reality exists outside of humans. Religion does not

Some people think that if atheism were true, human choices would be insignificant. I think just the opposite — they would become surpassingly important.

A nice read about the morality and belief, regardless of what you believe in.

I know what’s coming. I know no one beats these odds. It’s a matter of getting used to that and growing up and realizing that you are expelled from your mother’s uterus as if shot from a cannon toward a barn door studded with old nail files and rusty hooves. It’s a matter of how you use up the intervening time in an intelligent and ironic way and try not to do anything nasty to your fellow creatures.

“I have been in denial for some time, knowingly burning the candle at both ends and finding that it often gives a lovely light. But for precisely that reason, I can’t see myself smiting my brow with shock or hear myself whining about how it’s all so unfair: I have been taunting the Reaper into taking a free scythe in my direction and have now succumbed to something so predictable and banal that it bores even me. Rage would be beside the point for the same reason.”

Rest in peace, Mr. Hitchens. You were a beautiful and brilliant man. I’m going to miss you terribly.

Is it ‘God’ or ‘god’?

Here’s an answer from beav121:

I have a couple of reasons why.

1.) “god” and “lord” are umbrella nouns. All the other religions in the world call their gods and goddesses by names. Why is the Christian god so special that he gets the term God? It’s a bit selfish, don’t ya think?

2.) I don’t believe in the Christian “God”. I am mostly Atheist, but consider myself Agnostic on most days.

I don’t believe “god” should ever be capitalized. That’s like saying that every man on the planet has a name except for one guy who thinks he’s the shit and is more special than everyone else so his name is Man because he’s “the” man. I think all religions are equal.

A perfect being requires nothing, certainly not the simpering praise of lesser beings; the god of the bible is an impossibility.
